"I don't think journalism is supposed to be "balanced."
It's supposed to be true.
Honest.
Factual.
Relevant.
If candidate 'A' is an arsonist, report they're an arsonist.
You shouldn't have to follow up with a story about how candidate 'B' once burned the steaks at a family BBQ."

@gemelliz @BrentButt It is worth informing or reminding everyone that in Japan there is a law (introduced by the Abe government) that makes it compulsory to bothside everything exactly like that.
At least on television and in newspapers, you need to follow up with as much as praise as the criticism by which you started.
Needless to say, democracy defenders and human rights watchers were in the streets to oppose this law... but it still passed.

The newspapers and the media in general don't care about the truth and more than their corporate owners.

They'll tell you any lie that'll make them money.

Don't expect more from them.

"Balanced" comes from a time when we thought all politicians wanted to improve society but disagreed on how best to do it.
My parents believed this, not because they thought politicians were altruistic but because if politicians didn't, they'd lose the next election.
