From the Keynote speech by President von der Leyen at the GLOBSEC Forum 2024:

"there is something else we already know. Peace cannot be taken for granted. You warned already years ago about #Putin 's intentions. Well, we should have listened better to Central and Eastern Europe."

"Some politicians ... blame the war not on the invader but on the invaded; not on #Putin 's lust for power but on #Ukraine 's thirst for freedom. So I want to ask them: Would you ever blame #Hungarians for the #Soviet invasion of #1956 ? Would you ever blame #Czechs for the Soviet repression of #1968 ? The answer to these questions is very clear: The #Kremlin 's behaviour was illegal and atrocious back then. And the Kremlin's behaviour is illegal and atrocious today. "
" in no language is peace synonymous with surrender. In no language is sovereignty synonymous with occupation. So those who argue to stop support for #Ukraine do not argue for peace. They argue for appeasement and the subjugation of Ukraine."
"while many outside #Europe are pre-occupied only with the end of fighting, my position is that peace is not simply the absence of war. Peace is a settlement that makes war impossible and unnecessary. Therefore, we must put #Ukraine in the condition of negotiating such peace. And this is why the integration of Ukraine in our European Union is for us at the heart of our peace effort."

" #Putin has traded his country's prosperity for his own imperial ambitions. And our own dependency on #Russia has become an asset in Putin's hands.

What was believed to be a source of security was in fact a source of vulnerability. "

@fulelo

She is such incompetent as much as risky. It is even difficult to read that thing.
@nikoleavic @fulelo Risky? In what way, exactly?
@alcinoe @fulelo About rienforcing the russian war on Ukraine!?
@nikoleavic @fulelo So you believe that Ukraine should capitulate to Russian demands? And that appeasing Russia is necessary because to do otherwise would be risky to Europe? How far should should this appeasement go? If Russian tanks roll into NATO countries, would it be too risky to stop them?
@alcinoe @fulelo You misunderstand all the concept. I didn't speak about turning back but I am speaking about the right to defence at the very end! CLEAR enough.

I hope though you know about the genocide going on, here is some article to deepen in that waters. https://mondoweiss.net/2024/08/western-media-can-be-held-legally-accountable-for-its-role-in-the-gaza-genocide/
Western media can be held legally accountable for its role in the Gaza genocide

Western media companies have made themselves a part of the mechanism of genocide in Palestine, and there are historical precedents for holding them accountable.

@fulelo

Very impressive. Extremely eloquent and to the point.

Let's hope for europe, that this more structured approach can finish Putin and help re-build Ukraine. (With the only positive of the war, but a big one.. Ukrainian corruption cleaned up)
