When I was in my first year teaching we took the 9th graders on a field trip, on our way we cut through a posh little garden store & my two most troublesome students were gawking & joking about how expensive the "trees in pots" were. (like $300) "I can get a tree" one of them said. I didn't realize how ominous this was.

The next day they cut school, dug up a sapling in the neglected park near the school. Somehow they got caught and it was a whole thing.

One of them works at Home Depot now.
