The first university was built in Fez, Morocco in the 9th century by a Muslim woman called Fatima Al-Fihri.

Historians: There's no hard evidence. A Woman couldn't possibly have built a university and left no trace of Herself in history.

Hmmm, so, what you're saying is a Man must have built a university and left no trace of Himself in history?

Historians: That's absolutely what happened. There's no other possible explanation.

Just think about that.

Fatima al-Fihri: Founder of the world’s first university - Manchester University Press

Not ALL Historians!

Bad historians dismiss the theory that Fatima Al Firhi built the first university using flimsy suppositions with an unsavoury subtext, and, crucially, don't offer a more plausible theory.

Good historians acknowledge the lack of documented evidence means they remain open minded, but the theory remains the most plausible.

Good historians have also read the supporting evidence of how instrumental women have been in education in the Islamic world.

The Qarawiyyin Project

In case you hadn't guessed it, I'm not a historian.

These posts are just a fun little by product of the Taliban issuing a challenge to prove that their complete ban on education on all girls over the age of 11 wasn't in accordance with Islamic values.

I'm neither an expert in history or Islam or female education. But I still won that challenge. It took me about 5 minutes on the internet.

The Taliban are talking utter bobbins. Again.
