Further to an earlier thread on the interface between Irish traditional and baroque music, I've only just discovered this fascinating group thanks to The Rolling Wave. cc @bthalpin @wexfordkate
@declangaffney @bthalpin Thanks Declan! Will check it out...
@wexfordkate @bthalpin Just listening to this, from 1990, completely new to me. First piece is from the Anna Magdalena Bach notebooks.
@declangaffney @bthalpin My reply seems to have been eaten by the ether. Apologies if this is a duplicate reply. I look forward to listening to this. Amerghin (Anne Marie O’Farrell, harp; Aingeala De Buirca, Violin; Tim Doyle, whistle; and Brian Fleming, bodhrán, bones and percussion) are in this territory now, but they also play commissions.
@wexfordkate @bthalpin AFAICS there are two trio albums (the ones I posted) and two with larger forces and I much preferred the former. I find the combination of harp, fiddle and whistle very pleasing to the ear, a lovely silvery sound.
@declangaffney @bthalpin That's a lovely way to describe it, silvery. I agree, it's a lovely combination.
