linear algebra is the worst. it’s SUPER COOL and REALLY IMPORTANT for modern math/cs, but i just can’t find the right resources to vault from an elementary understanding to an intermediate one.
wikipedia is normally great for this kind of stuff, but sometimes it suffers from the “monad problem” where instead of providing an intellectual on-ramp for a topic, a monad is a monoid in the category of endofunctors. that is to say, all of the vocabulary needed to understand a topic is dense and cross-referential.
tl;dr i don’t know what an eigenvector is :(
@achurch It helps to know the German meaning for "Eigen." It means "self" "my own" or refers to an self-view or identity. Depending on context, it is a prefix that can mean "proper" or "unique"
An eigenvector is a unique identifier. It's the ID card of a mathematical system. What's cool about it is that two systems can look very different, but share an eigenvector and eigenvalue. It means that any differences between those two systems are not mathematically important.
