This is a damn good point.

Like, the success rate for CPR is only around 45%*, but we still tell people to do it EVERY TIME someone's heart stops beating.

*This is for people who receive CPR after cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting.

@BathysphereHat But what'f they regret having had CPR performed on them? Shouldn't they go thru a psych evaluation first? These days, beings'll do't on like, everyone, even children. Don't ya think it's a bit worrying where our society's headed? I'm pretty sure all that talk on CPR these days's just emergency responders tryna get rich off't.
@BathysphereHat @tanith people have actually made these arguments before for CPR and they were shot down, just shows the inherent bigotry even clearer. If it were anything else the carefully considered end result wouldn't be limiting care it'd be expanding it
@BathysphereHat

Surprised it's that high: even performed perfectly and with quick EMS response, the underlying cause of the arrest is often non-reversable/-recoverable.

@BathysphereHat @Girgias I agree that gender affirming care is critical. I’ve received it myself and it’s amazing.

I wanted to point out that lithium reduces suicide by up to 90% even in people with unipolar depression or those who don’t respond to lithium’s mood stabilizing effects.

@BathysphereHat
Anecdotal, but...
I've had quite a few trans people in my life. Some I knew a short while, some will probably be there at my funeral.
Every. Single. Time one of them gets a step closer to finishing transition, they get better. They're less miserable, less stressed, it's very obviously helping them.
@BathysphereHat and we might want to add the cis kids with delayed puberty also struggling less with sex and gender stuff before they are ready.
@BathysphereHat i have always maintained the thought that HRT is like anti-depressants to us trans people.
@BathysphereHat Transphobic people will unfortunately respond that it doesn't matter and that trans people deserve to be depressed for trying to be of a gender other than the one assigned at birth 😞
@BathysphereHat
Wow I never thought about it that way. It does sound so straightforward when you put it that way
