As my severe back pain is starting to go from 'manageable' to 'subsiding' and while I continue to make sure that I'm not performing any motions that will cause any resurgence, I'm starting to work on processes to ensure correct posture and then exercise to strengthen. I already tend to lie flat with a rolled up towel to help reform a lordosis (natural curve of the lower back), but generally struggle to maintain correct posture when not sitting in my #HermanMiller #Embody chair... 1/N
I even find that the #HermanMiller #Embody doesn't provide _enough_ lumbar support for me. Occasionally I'll toss the rolled-up towel behind my back in it, my car, or on the couch, but it never stays put. While re-reading about the McKenzie method today (my sister is a physical therapy assistant and had gifted me the book), I noticed that they sell lumbar rolls that you attach around your waist. Why didn't I think of that?! 2/N
I looked for a long enough belt or strap with buckle and -- none to be found -- ultimately just cut a length of paracord. Fold beach towel in half (lengthwise) then in half again (crosswise), pass paracord through the crosswise fold (as if hanging the towel on the paracord), roll up the towel, then place the towel in the curve of the back, wrap the paracord around waist (above hips & below rib cage), and tie firmly. Suddenly, I have portable lumbar support that stays in place! 3/3
@morgant I need to do this
@steven I'm not a health professional, so certainly talk to one, do your research, and don't do anything that doesn't feel right or makes things worse!
