don't do half a year's worth of work in 2-3 months kids

it's not good for your mental health

@eniko But it's also sometime good to force yourself and overcome your limits.
@sepiamonad please don't say stuff like this. i didn't do it cause it's noble or good. i hurt myself doing it, and the reason i did it is because my alternative was probable homelessness
@eniko yeah :-( and burnout takes a long time to recover from too
@eniko Please tell that to my clients.

@eniko this here, once you hit a limit it takes *quite* a longer time to heal from that than anyone would imagine

self-diagnosed expectation of time to heal within burnout: "if I just had like a month or so to recharge"

psychotherapist: "yeah you need like 3-6 months"

reality: "wow, one year after I can almost forget about that..."

@mmby After four years: nope I'm just a different person now
@eniko @catsalad Well, when am I supposed to do it then?!?
@minego @catsalad preferably over like 6-12 months tbh
@eniko @minego I was gonna say over a 6 month period, but I like the buffer time!
@catsalad @minego gotta take lil breaks every now and then, yanno?
@eniko @catsalad and, if you don't try to cram 3 months of work into 1 regularly, then it is easy for those breaks to not turn into months of nothing.

@eniko @catsalad Well, it's a little late for that!

(Being serious for a moment though, that is really good advice, and I try to remind myself of it frequently)

@minego @catsalad yeah, i have very recently hurt myself doing this so it's definitely coming from lived experience >_>
@eniko @catsalad It is a hard lesson to accept. I think it is an easy lesson to learn, but knowing it and accepting it aren't the same thing. Hopefully we can all do better in the future.
