This is what it looked like in Slovakia on 21.8.1968. Armies of the Warsaw pact invaded Czechoslovakia. Why? Because we wanted democracy instead of a communist totalitarian regime.

They killed 148 people and almost half a milion people emigrated in the following years (many died attempting to cross the guarded borders).

They stayed until 1991, leaving behind them ruin, death, enviromental and cutural damage.

@janbogar i hope you'll also take position about what USA did in latin america. Or because it's USA, it was "for the good" ?

@HerNameIsTitou Why? I am sharing history of my country on the day it happened. I don't have to take position on every injustice that ever happened. Should I also express my position on Viking invasion of Britain, German invasion of Poland, Soviet invasion of Poland, or Sea peoples' invasion into Egypt?

And what's your position? Instead of taking any, you just resorted to whataboutism. If you wanted to talk positions, you shoud have started with that.

@janbogar it's more about when i ask peoples like you to describe "totalitarian communist regime" they end describing USA, or even NATO countries.

@HerNameIsTitou Lol, my parents lived in it and I was lucky enough to be born a year after its definitive fall. I don't have to explain it to you, I can just show you:

In USA, people can leave anytime they want. Here we couldn't. The border was guarded, like in North Korea. Yet still many tried and many died attempting it. That's all you really need to know.

We are a NATO country. We desperately wanted to be one. It's not even remotely comparable.

@janbogar Leave to go where ? Most of europe countries are USA puppet, and the others has been destroyed by USA imperialism or USA-funded countries. USA is a terrorist state.

@HerNameIsTitou If those are the conditions, they still have the whole former Soviet union to go to. No USA infuence at all, in the past or in the present. Paradise on earth.

Or, you know, wherever else. If that's all it takes to stop them from leaving, they don't have a reaon to leave.

@Titou :archlinux: You are uneducated little child. You think occupation of Kuwait by Iraq was great and defeating of occupiers was the crime, for example. You are disgusting totalitarian trash.
@martin if being uneducated mean refusing to obey to uncle sam then yes i am
@Titou :archlinux: You are only incapable uneducated moron. Try elementary school.

@martin now now, even though she acts like a moron, there is no reason to insult her by saying it to her face.

She might yet learn. But even if she doesn't, it doesn't help anyone. Culture is important.

Skladbu ospevujúcu Putina hodil do koša

@HerNameIsTitou you obviously hate the USA. I assume you live in it. I don't blame you, it could be a legitimate position.

So you looked at the USA, made an ideological turn of 180°, looked at their Gret Historical Enemy (GHE) and thought: "there, that's the opposite, that will solve all the issues".

It doesn't work like that. In this case, that GHE is much, much worse than anything USA is today, even with all its failings. Choosing the greater evil is not a valid critique, or helpfull.

We have such people here too. In Slovakia, they are usually neonacists because of their nostalgia for the slovak fascist state, in Czechia, they are communists and fascists, often at the same time.

Lenin (allegedly) called them usefull idiots.

Don't romanticise brutal oppresive regimes. Listen to the people who lived in them. Check out the museum link I sent, I am sure you can find other written testimonies. And then make your own opinions. Don't be an usefull idiot.

@janbogar im not from USA, also im not sure there's a country that invaded more than the USA.
@HerNameIsTitou where are you from, out of curiosity?
@janbogar what where im from has to do with this ?

@HerNameIsTitou not much, you don't have to share it.

Just wanted to satisfy my curiosity. I like to understand how can the place where you live shape someone's political and geopolitical opinions.

@janbogar All you need to know is that if i wanted to fit in my country's political views i would be a liberal pro-nato or a far-right winger
@janbogar what's GHE ?
@HerNameIsTitou Great Historical Enemy. The term I use. For US, it used to be cold war Russia, although nowdays maybe radical islam is taking it's place? For France I assume it's Germany and fascism, for us it's either communism or fascism, depending on how far you go. For Poland I am pretty sure it's Russia. For southern USA it could be the north. For Greeks the Turkey, for India I assume Britain, although I am not sure. For Britain I assume IRA.
