Pixel 9 phones: The Gemini AI stuff, reviewed

A newcomer dives into AI with the Pixel 9 Pro.

Ars Technica

@arstechnica seems a fairly monumentally bad bet for Google to go all in on this. And an even worse business model if they plan on anything close to $240 for a subscription, when they're selling, at best, "novelties" and "mild usefulness you could get from searching."

I just bought a Pixel 8 Pro (and am posting from it now.) I would not have gone with Google if I thought they were trying to shove Gemini down my throat in every corner. Yikes.

@philbetts @arstechnica Honestly, the only reason I would buy Google is to flash grapheneos on it. The fact that the bootloader is unlocked is the best feature they have.
@philbetts @arstechnica supposedly, it's possible to disable Gemini on the Pixel 9s. If I were to get a Pixel with Gemini enabled by default, and if it irritated me enough, I'd install a third party Android like LineageOS, but very few "normal" users will be willing or able to do that.
