Is stress testing a new SSD a good idea? Are there tools or best practices for this?

I just had a 3 month old SSD give up completely while receiving data from an older HDD that I'm trying to retire. At this point I'm nervous about trying with the next drive since the smart status on the SSD said everything was cool up until yesterday when it freaked after I started getting io errors

@glamfrenzy Windows? Maybe check this out? https://reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/1cxguk8/to_stress_test_a_new_sandisk_extreme_pro_2tb/

Not sure on Linux. Never done anything on Mac.

I am using Linux. This was still an interesting read though since now I can add worrying about firmware misrepresenting the drive capacity to my concern about early drive failure so thanks for that 😋

I do think I am going to whip the next drive a bit before I actually trust it with real data. Feeling queasy after some minor data loss and a near major loss as I consolidated files on the new drive assuming it was safer than the old one
