"We have to stop this blatant land (coast) grab."

'Save our Shores', Hobson's Pledge, 2024

You mean the one where the Pākeha iwi recognised by Te Tiriti o Waitangi grab coastal areas under mana whenua of other hapū and iwi for hundreds of years before we arrived in these islands? That land grab?

I like what Alien Weaponry have to say on land grabs;

The Taxpayer's Union seems to think that respect for principles of "free speech" obliges news media to be a neutral conduit for disinformation. It doesn't.

We expect news media to reject commercially-motivated ads that make demonstrably false claims about products or services. We'd be up in arms if they didn't. The same applies to politically-motivated ads.

I'm the first to complain when people are blocked from expressing their opinions on the facts. Even when I totally disagree with those opinions.

But Hobson's Pledge blatantly misrepresent the facts. Stoking fear and division ("iwi/kiwi"), and manipulating Pākeka and tauiwi against natural justice for hapū and iwi. All to increase opportunities for commercial exploitation of coastal areas.

This is cut and dried case of false advertising, and NZ Herald were mistaken to run it at all.
