Yesterday I did a mini #GLAM tour of DC. I started by visiting some of @tjowens colleagues at the Niels Bohr Library and Archives (American Institute of Physics). It was interesting visiting another archives and library that has at least a good amount of thematic overlap with my own work.
Then, since I was in the area, I decided to drop by the DC Punk Collections at UMD. https://www.instagram.com/umdpunkcollections?igsh=eXpjZmtmOXp4a2Mx They were so amazingly welcoming. I dropped by thinking a few items might be on display. They weren’t, but they just pulled several boxes based on some interests I mentioned. So awesome, so uncomplicated. It definitely made me want to go look for old show flyers.

This incredibly DC flyer featuring Bad Brains and Minor Threat (1982)
DC-based zine, Give Me Back, in the footsteps of the legendary hardcore zine HeartattaCk. #dcpunk #hardcorepunk #umddcpunkcollections
I could post a bunch of other pictures, but some of them would probably be too niche. Anyway, after I left UMD, I continued with the #dcpunk theme and went to a rooftop show at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in DC. This was hosted by the DC Punk Archive. https://digdc.dclibrary.org/islandora/object/dcplislandora%3A236691.

The punk gig on top of the library was really great. I haven’t lived in the DC Area since 2003, but even I recognized a couple of people from shows back then. It was a really diverse crowd and truly inter generational. I really really enjoyed it! Expect to see me wearing some #dcpunkarchive shirts at #ipres2024 😅
@archivist_Liz and Bratmobile 😍 ! These flyers are awesome! i had never heard of the umd punk collection before. gave them an immediate follow on instagram. thanks for sharing!
@mickylindlar It’s a little wild that there are two DC Punk Collections relatively near each other, but I started following both of them on Twitter a while ago. I’d need to read more on their origins of, but they’re both pretty cool. It wasn’t exactly easy to reach the University of Maryland collection (the campus is huge & it’s in the performing arts library), but once I made it, there was zero fuss about seeing the collection. Lots of the flyers are online, but it was great to peruse in person
