Byron Haskin's The War of the Worlds, produced by George Pal, was released 71 years ago today.

"A small town in California is attacked by Martians, beginning a worldwide invasion."

@TheSpaceshipper he had a thing about Mars - Robinson Crusoe on Mars and The Outer Limits’ The Invisible Enemy with the astronaut eating Martian sand dragon.
@TheSpaceshipper I still think ID4 is a modern retelling of this version of WotW. Too many parallels. I will take this version over the Spielberg version every time.

@TheSpaceshipper

I love this movie and absolute hate the Spielberg version.

The annoying kids made me want them to get taken by the aliens and the tripods being hidden underground for millions of years made no sense.

Just an overall bad movie in my opinion.

@TheSpaceshipper the movie completely ignores the subversive atheism Wells wrote into his novel and perverts it into christian salvation symbolism in that idiotic and pathetic finale. Almost as bad as Spielbergs remake.

@TheSpaceshipper

71 years ago blimey, we have a vinyl LP record at home, and I still think the vinyl's sound the best.
