Do voters care about #ClimateChange?

"The large majority of Americans would prefer government action on climate change, but that doesn't mean that they prioritize the issue when they're going into their polling place and voting."

A Pew poll says Americans put climate at low priority.
But it's not that simple.

Do voters care about climate change? How going green divides this election

Both Democrats and Republicans rank climate change lower than other issues.

ABC News

In this Pew poll, "Dealing with climate change" is #18 of 20 priorities Americans were asked about.
I think that's simply because few people have connected the dots between climate change and issues that they care about.

For instance, climate change has a huge toll on the economy, on healthcare costs, and it's worst for poor people of color.

Americans’ Top Policy Priority for 2024: Strengthening the Economy

Growing shares of Republicans rate immigration and terrorism as top priorities for the president and Congress this year.

This nugget from Mark Gongloff:

"Just as two-thirds of us worry about #ClimateChange, two-thirds of us say we rarely or never discuss it with our friends or family. Maybe we don’t talk about climate change now, but nothing is stopping us. The more we normalize talking about it, the likelier we are to actually do something about it. "

Harris Doesn’t Talk About Climate Change. Why?

Americans place global warming high on their list of worries but low on their list of voting priorities.

@CelloMomOnCars I noticed this early on and I am afraid she is triangulating. This won't change my vote, of course, but makes me sad.

@tmstreet

Did you read the article tho?
It says Harris doesn't *have* to emphasise her record or plans on climate change because everybody already knows that Trump is going to turn on the fossil fuel spigot on full blast, while she has helped put "Biden's" climate law in place.

@CelloMomOnCars This wasn't based on the article but the fact that she is running away from her anti fracking stance in Pennsylvania due to its heavy reliance on natural gas and fracking. I could not access the article. Yes, realpolitik probably demands this but it still makes me sad that we can't have a full throated endorsement on the climate crisis. We are also setting records in fossil fuel production despite the good things with respect to IRA, etc.

@tmstreet

At least she picked the climate action guy not the guy who hasn't tried very hard to stop fracking in his state.
But I hear you.
