Six years ago I begged journalists to "stop being loudspeakers for liars" -- and I have to admit that my entreaties fell on deaf ears.

Last week's lie-filled "press conference" at Trump's home was a powerful demonstration of why they should at least try. But they've made it clear that they will never even acknowledge this fundamental flaw in what they do, much less do anything to repair the ongoing damage.

it. is. how. they. make. a. living. gotta pay for those two month of the kids going to summer camp somehow. the press isn't some vaunted public good, it sells, and has always sold, advertising space. if it bleeds it leads. and in the era of consolidation, and fox news ascension they're remit was clear, get the eyeballs, worry about the democracy later ... after we've cashed out and hid behind our gated communities
