Streamyfin, a simple and user-friendly Jellyfin client for iOS and Android - tchncs

Love another iOS option.
And it works with google cast out of the box!
Looks nice, I’ll give it a try! There’s also a Jellyfin community, don’t hesitate to crosspost there :)
I’ve been trying fin Droid which works well but it’s definitely a work in progress.
New Jellyfin app ? I’m all for it!
Supports downloading a server transcoded file? That’s amazing!
FYI Jellyflix also supports that
Findroid also recently added this

Transcoding and transcoded downloads does not seem to be merged yet, altough there’s a working PR.

Ah yeah I forgot I was running the bleeding version, either way it will probably be stable soon ish
From what I understand its still restrained by the server in real time so downloading a 2 hour movie would still take two hours 🥲
Is this a bug, or is it actually just limited to the transcode speed? I would love to read the incident/bug report about this.
It’s limited to the transcode speed, but it’s important to keep in mind that e.g. if you transcode to a lower resolution especially it’ll usually transcode faster than realtime.
Then it shouldn’t be limited. I can transcode a movie faster then I watch it even at higher quality.
Right, I just mean if your connection speed is faster than your server can transcode, then the transcode speed will be the bottleneck
You can just use Obtainium with the gh releases link
I too would rather have an F-droid version instead of having to use Obtainium. There is additional inherent trust by going through F-droid’s process.
Play store link is broken :(
Wonder if it’s a region thing. Not there for me either (UK).
Possibly. There is an apk on the GitHub that you can sideload for now.
Joined the TestFlight!
AppleTV client at some point?
Is there currently any? This is the only reason I’d consider moving from plex.
There’s SwiftFin, but it’s been a while from the last update (iOS app was updated recently though) and there’s a number of issues. It’s usable though (I’m using it).
There’s the official Jellyfin app for Apple TV. It works very well with only minor UI bugs when browsing libraries. Nothing that detracts from or reduces the quality of the service.
Surround sound didn’t work for me with the Jellyfin player and with the native player language selection didn‘t work. If you don’t have to transcode and spare a few quid, Infuse is great. Sadly can’t recommend it to my friends accessing my server from outside my home network because of said lack of transcoding.
I’m not sure if it’s what you’re looking for but I use Infuse on the ATV for the times the Plex client can’t play a file, usually because it’s DV format.
I have an Apple TV and downloaded the official Jellyfin client for it. Works very well, just minor UI bugs when browsing through the library. Nothing that detracts from the experience or affect the quality of the service.
Awesome! Just joined the test flight. Love the app icon.

Nah, the icon looks like some ai-generated garbage, too much detail for such a small size.

But as a first icon, whatever works, I am not complaining! Good to have another app on android for Jellyfin!

you literally complained then said you’re not complaining in the same breath
You apparently can’t read well. That are different things he speaks of. You need a mental evaluation.
please seek help, you need it
I dislike how it looks. I don’t care it’s there. That’s not complaining. I don’t need this changed. It’s just ugly in my view.
Fantastic to have more selection! I love Findroid but its good to have alternatives!
If you test it, can you let me know how it compares to Findroid?
Once it works, sure. Will need to wait for a fix first.

OK, it works now so I had a look.

At this stage no match for Findroid, but I like the layout of it.

When you play a file it somehow starts playing minimised and you need to tap it it goes full screen.

No automatic rotation, so you need to do it manually.

Haven’t tried the downloading yet and I have no Chromecast to test casting with.

In a couple of updates it might be decent enough already for general use.

Ooh, that’s promising. I guess I’ll try it once it matures a bit more then. Thanks for going through the trouble of reviewing it!
Yayyy unsecured connections for logins.
My server isn’t exposed to the outside. I am connecting through local WiFi. If someone manages to get in there I probably have bigger problems than access to my Jellyfin.
A non issue for servers hosted at home that aren’t exposed externally
Support for downloading and Chromecast? Sign me up.
The jellyfin app has both already… not sure what you’re on about?
Last time I checked, on iOS it didn’t have either.
Does it support intro skip?

Just tried it and it didn’t work for me:

Could be a version issue

The app works well enough but was unable to watch anything I downloaded offline on iOS. Has anyone experienced this and found a fix? I downloaded from the App Store, not Test Flight.
He actually patched it already. WOW!!! So happy to have offline transcoded files back after leaving Plex!
Crash on degoogled phones (dev is already aware)
