Protip: You can also make a phone call by holding it up to your ear and speaking into it directly at a low volume.
@overholt Not when holding it too close to my face causes the call to hang up.
@ymasumac @overholt then there’s something wrong with your phone. Since the original iPhone, smartphones have had a proximity sensor that shuts down the screen when you put it to your face specifically because of that.
@overholt @ymasumac @josh0 I've definitely had laggy old phones where the updates have piled up to the point that the sensor fails to trigger the touch disable quickly enough to prevent accidental ear / cheek touches. Not sure how it works in iOS but for Android at least if touch inputs are ongoing because your face is already mashed on it won't lockout further inputs when the OS catches up to the sensor. The only workaround was to consistently remember to hover the phone near but not touching for a few moments to give it a hot second to catch up.
@mnemonicoverload @overholt @ymasumac interesting. I’ve never had an issue with an iOS device, and I use it just like the old school phones I grew up with. Don’t recall ever having any issues with the handful of android phones I’ve had, either.
