I think the closest I get is the distinction between the ones on the shelves (rarely looked at except by houseguests), the stacks on the floor by my desk (probably connected to something I'm writing, have written in the past year or so, or need to write soon), the stacks on the dining-room table (probably related to something I'm teaching or have taught in the past year or so), or the ones stacked on my bedside table (novels I'm reading).
