Irenes (many)@cykonot @evacide "mistake" would imply that the VPs who signed off on it hadn't been advised of the dangers, but they absolutely had, though voluminous public discussion. on our background as someone who's held a role in internal corporate oversight, we'd be astonished if nobody inside the company said it, but we can't prove that.

@forpeterssake @cykonot @evacide there was a panel at PEPR a couple months ago where a couple people who've been involved in the legislative side of things in the US expressed the opinion that real federal privacy laws just can't happen there due to the influence of lobbyists
