evacideEvery woman I know who does tech support for survivors of domestic abuse does it because she is a survivor. Every man I know who does this work does it because they've seen someone abused and they were moved to do something about it.

@mdarweesh I recommend starting with some reading about intimate partner abuse and trauma, starting with "Why Does He Do That?" by Lundy Bancroft (with the caveat that boy is it gendered and heteronormative) and "Helping Her Get Free" by Susan Brewster (many of the same caveats apply).
Thomas Depierre@mdarweesh @evacide I would add, make sure that you have your own support network. Especially if you are in tech. Seeing how the tech we produce is used (and abused) will have impact on you. Doing that work will have impact on you.
I am not telling you to not do it, the contrary, we need more people doing it. What I am saying is that you are not going to be ready for the impact it will have on you, even if you think so.
Worth it, but keep in mind to prepare for that too.
