Pine Marten - a female that visited the woodland hide that a friend has set up. She's so alert and beautiful.

Thank goodness for silent cameras. Taken with my Canon R5 and RF100-500mm, here in the Scottish Highlands.

@petewalkden lovely creature.
I gather they are also good at preferentially predating grey squirrels, which is why you still have some reds.
@marjolica I don't think the greys have reached these parts yet, but you're right, pine martens do seem to keep them away naturally.
@petewalkden @marjolica the appearance of pine martens in the central Borders is definitely associated with a drop in grey squirrel sightings. Anecdotally at least. Also coincident with the first time I've detected a red in this particular woodland.
@petewalkden wow. thanks for sharing. she is simply stunning. great photo.
@petewalkden thank you for sharing this beautiful shot. This is an animal I've never had the privilege to see, except in images.
@petewalkden lovely dudes. They've reintroduced them into the forest up the road to try and keep the grey squirrel numbers down. Not seen one yet and probably won't.
@petewalkden Pine martens are organic Muppets.
@petewalkden Pine Martens *love* creme fraiche. I was staying at a National Trust property that has hundreds of them and one broke into my food box and stole creme fraiche and a banana and ate it under the pod making noises like teeth in a tumble dryer. Every time I went back they looked for more creme fraiche. Bonkers brilliant animals. Totally unscared of humans.
@petewalkden We know a song about that, don't we children?
