We found the magic Glaswegian portal to Bavaria this evening, round the corner from Glasgow Central station. They serve food as well as beer:

@cstross You chose with the Paulaner the second best, the best being the Augustiner. I'd rank the Hofbräu und Hacker a joined 3rd, the Löwenbräu I'd only drink when the 4 before have run out. And whatever you do, don't touch the Spaten.
@madalex Yes, we know our weissbiers. I had the Hacker-Pschorr kellerbier; F has a weakness for Paulaner (which is hard to find on draft in Scotland).
@cstross If they served you a Weißbier in those glasses, they need to brought to justice for crimes against humanity. And my ranking was for Helles, if you're talking Weißbier, first off, stear clear of Munich breweries for those. If you must, Löwenbräu Weißbier is actually on the top of my list with Augustiner second. Can't say that I had any other besides Franziskaner (which is the Spaten), and this also to be avoided at all cost. And with a Kellerbier you usually can't go wrong.
@madalex The maß glasses they used are identical to those used in the Paulaner’s own places in Germany. They’re just stamped with a line at two pints instead of a litre.
@feorag @madalex Do you have a picture of the beer menu? I‘m curious how expensive they are…
@chris @feorag There was a link to the website of the portal fantasy place and there I found this: https://www.bavariabrauhaus.com/ourbier

@madalex @feorag So the Paulaner is about twice the price compared to Germany, that‘s expected.
Some typos are expected, even in product names, sigh.
But keine Umlaute? That‘s a disappointing lack of effort. Umlaute are not optional decoration, they make different letters, sounds and meaning.
@chris @feorag Well, with Umlaute they'd have to charge three times as much.
@madalex @feorag They have #Ersatzwurst, a German word coined by Feorag, that has been adopted in my circle of friends here :-)
@chris @madalex The typos were bad enough to grate with me. Must be torture for actual Germans.
@feorag @chris Reading the dining menu, it rather looks like a parody of Bavarian cuisine to me, or just maybe what someone who came to Munich for a weekend of Oktoberfest & spent 95% of it in a drunken stupor, takes what they remember afterwards of Bavarian cuisine and fill in any blanks with 5 minute Google search.
@feorag @madalex Typos happen. And foreign dishes usually are simplified to something that can be prepared and consumed by locals without being too much of a challenge.
It’s just disappointing that a venue that has German beer as a main part of its concept did not put any effort at all into using Umlaute.
In particular since they are part of the names of the products they are selling. And they look cool :-)
But maybe that’s very German nitpicking.
