I should probably use some tags #DWebCamp or #DWebCamp2024 I’ll see about making a feed.
Made it to the @archive.org building. Lovely dinner and a tour that I’ll write up later. Now, rest, and tomorrow we drive to Camp Navarro.
Breakfast sandwich & a cappuccino at Joy’s Place in downtown SF, which has an Instagram friendly green wall. Pretty good!
For #DWebCamp I set up a HedgeDoc instance. It’s meant to be a default spot for notes, sharing, & collaboration. I just finished Robin Sloan’s Sourdough, so I made a /books page dweb.camp/books On theme for some of the d-food topics at camp this year.
HedgeDoc 1.x has a number of down sides — root page isn’t customizable, can’t easily show lists of all notes, very much a centralized app (although open source & self-hosted). But it’s very solid for synchronous, collaborative markdown editing. #DWebCamp
I talked to the #DWebCamp network team a bit last night. It’s only a 50Mbps back haul network from camp, so it’s best if things run locally, on the local wifi network. So…I might try and dump the database and install locally.
Stopped in Boonville. BLT + sweet potato fries + cappuccino + Yerba mate from Boonville General Store Cafe Bakery Deli omaps.app/8jmo6metzx/B... And cool yarn paintings! #DWebCamp

A day of setup. I helped out with Redwood Cathedral and Tea Tent. Checking sightlines and signage as you come into Redwood.
Did a test decoration of my notebook for the event. Secret animal sticker! Find your animal friends at the event. And amazing “stamp” stickers by Ira! #DWebCamp
Opening ceremony practice run through. Mai and @iandavis.id in the amphitheater. #DWebCamp
Good morning! #DWebCamp begins today, with the rest of attendees joining us from 2pm today.
The attendees arrive! Registration begins. Met Spencer who is at The Embassy and he might be able to host the @causalislands.com talk next Tuesday lu.ma/zmua2lsj

Marie talks about Drip App, the menstrual cycle tracking app dripapp.org - data on device, secure, private, and exportable. What would it look like for local first / DWeb protocols to improve on this? And not make Marie do the work. #DWebCamp

One of my cabin roomies also brought a Daylight Computer Tablet along. Come see Mek or me if you want to try it. The team is interested in making the hardware be DWeb friendly (really!) It’s Android Open Source today with one first party reader app. #DWebCamp

Today the bus took everyone away at 11am, leaving about 80 volunteers, fellows, and other helpers to break down the camp. I volunteered to cook dinner with a great crew. We prepped & cooked the meal all afternoon. Hunter did a great job, here he is cooking the chicken larb I made. #DWebCamp
