To clarify without editing the poll, option 1 should be written "system SEE TEE ELL".

I hope that was apparent, but should have been clearer.

@penryu You didn't have an option for me... I say 'system cuttle" (as in cuttle fish). BUT, I totally just realised that I need to stop saying "aye octal" and start saying "aye oh cuttle" for consistency. There's absolutely no way I'll be able to unlearn that after 4 decades of miss pronoun see asian though 😢

@gvv Ah, for me, "cuttle" and "cuddle" are pronounced the same.

I think that's pretty common in American English, but not universal.

@penryu cuddle fish sounds much cuter that cuttle fish 👍

@gvv Yeah, when I first learned about them, I remember the (American) narrator even calling out the pronunciation overlap.

"But don't let the name fool you! The cuttlefish is anything but cuddly!"

...or something like that.

There you have it.

For my part, I said "system control" UP UNTIL I heard the cuttle/cuddle expansion. Now I only say "system cuttle", in my head or out loud.

If my audience looks confused, I will either explain or alter my expansion.

I won't change my use, nor do I expect anyone else to change theirs. I just wanted to poll a decent sample of people.
@penryu I voted "system ctl" because that's what I usually say when someone else has to type it, but if typing isn't important, I’d expand it to "control”. Also, sometimes for punnyness I would say “cuddle” as well <_<

@uliwitness Sweeping the board! Nice one!

I'd say in practice, I'm very similar.

@penryu I win! Spoken I always use "System-C-T-L", though sometimes in my own head I use "system control".

I've never liked the cuddle/cuttle/kittle pronunciation of "ctl".
