My preference when doing portraits is to get my subjects to present me with a neutral “plain face” but asking folks to do that when at a street fair, with it’s atmosphere of lighthearted fun, is another level of courage for me to achieve beyond merely asking to take their photo.

I did pat myself on the back for doing a decent job of using a handheld remote triggered speedlight to light my backlit subjects.
