3️⃣ OUR VISION

Let’s conclude with a few words about online community building in our current era of “digital inebriation”.

The current social and ecological predicament we are in calls for unprecedented thinking leading to radical decisions.

💬 In the spirit of ecological redirection, stating in a nutshell that “resource and climate wise, we won’t be able to maintain everything as it is currently”, we throw this friendly invitation to you all so together we can focus on what we cherish as a community: using mastodon.design as a space to connect and share ephemeral snippets of the many facets of our existences.
The decision above draws the most appropriate short-term path within the current given conditions, but all ideas are welcome so that everyone can thrive on the instance while being able to keep the important stuff safe and sound somewhere more appropriate.
By essence, microblogging was never a suitable technical solution for storing long-lasting pieces of information. But there are other great spaces and tools we can use to store the things we cherish: personal websites https://buttondown.email/ownyourweb, dedicated offline and online bookmarking tools (like Are.na, Pocket, Flus.fr, etc.), physical storage devices, and so many more.
