[Edit: this bit isn't true or is at least unconfirmed. reasons why I thought it was true in the later toots]
Fascists carried out an arson attack on the historic Carnegie library on Rice Lane, Walton.

[Edit: not true, as above]
I don't know the extent of the damage. The council website says it's scheduled to reopen, but they would say that. Over 100 years of serving the community up in smoke.

[Edit: this bit is still true]

I'm going to delete this if it turns out they meant Spellow Library in BBC's riot reporting. Walton library is temporarily closed (source liverpool city council website) but that might be due to neoliberalism (cuts) rather than rioting.
Dun dun dun. Not only is Walton library not damaged but it will be offering basic IT training from 18 Sep.
I guess reading between the lines New Spellow won't be ready before 18 Sep.
@floppyplopper I was looking for more info and was going to ask as all I found was Walton Carnegie Library is now run by Merseycare as a library, community heath and wellbeing centre... Was going to post about destroying community spaces (linked to Sunderland CAB)
@penwing
That's right. The library is all but gutted anyway and the assets run Merseycare CIC. A tiny token space for shelving books, no funding for new stock or dedicated library staff. So the "library" falls far far short of the UNESCO definition and has done since 2012. But still when the BBC said a library in Walton was attacked I checked the council website and saw Walton "Library" was closed indefinitely and came to what might be the wrong conclusion. I will know more on Monday.

@floppyplopper how about deleting it and then reposting if it turns out to be true?

I haven't seen anything about it and it's nearly two miles from the Spellow Hub. If the trouble had been across that much of the city there'd be more evidence.

@amcewen
I'm going to leave it up and edit it. But good suggestion.
