Soldering people: I’ve got a TS80p, I have good solder and flux. I have two types of tips. I am still shit at soldering. I want to be adequate at soldering.

Should I get a different soldering iron?

No I have not heard of a bad workman blaming their tools

@yezzer Depends what you are struggling with. Surface mount? Through hole? Small packages? Rework? Desoldering? Old kit? New kit? Also what diameter solder are you using? Lead free or leaded?
@RobeeShepherd Mainly through-hole, lead-free. Using this solder, I saw some forum post saying this was good - but perhaps it's not?
@yezzer The diameter is fine, tho lead free is usually a lot harder to solder with, but not impossible just has a higher melting point. Why do you think you are so bad at soldering? I’m assuming you are doing the usual things of setting the right temp, applying heat to the part for 1-2 seconds then applying solder to the joint? Tinning the tip, etc?
