@mattround also stunning
@bleepbloop It does horrible things to your brain
That song disturbed me years ago - I was working in London part of the time and getting a lot of taxis to/from trains etc at various times of day, and half a dozen times in a row I got into a taxi & Africa was playing, was so relieved when that run ended
@mattround I bet. Haunted by it. My choir requested singing it so much that the musical director gave in and we did it. It was horrific to find out how awful the lyrics are and they don’t scan or rhyme. Hella catchy chorus though.
@mattround V/VM release an album which used an early version of this technique I guess, back in maybe 2000. The whole album is amazing - Lady In Red Is Dancing With Meat by Chris de Burg, and Stay Another Day by East 17. This version of True by Spandau Ballet is a great example of what they were doing, particularly the sax solo https://youtu.be/6-Mrynz01C0?si=fueAiNkPQB0V8K_d

@mattround I am going to watch Blue Velvet tonight as a result of this post. I have not seen it for years and the only thing I remember about it is the ear and not understanding anything about it.
@bleepbloop Haven't watched it for a LONG time & not sure I saw the entire thing
@mattround dear oh dear. I got about 1h25m in to it and just gave up. IIRC this has happened a few times before. All of it is extremely stylised, including the acting. Everyone walks around like NPCs - walking from here to there but not interacting with anything like a human would. And the themes and “plot” were impossible to decode.
