A Christian family member just posted an apology to God that the opening Olympics ceremony used an image of da Vinci's Last Supper. I've never once seen her apologize for most American Christians supporting a lying, unethical, dangerous, narcissistic, adulterer who violates every tenet of her faith.
I do not understand faith that is obsessed with the meaningless and not the vital. Stop obsessing over symbols and start raising your voice about what matters in our spiritual and physical world.

This is actually the genius of the fascists types (including most churches.). If you concentrated on the actual substance people would disagree over that substance (what is charity, really? It's not always clear) but even more they would actually have to DO something (What? Stop mowing my lawn and volunteer at a homeless shelter??).
So get the people all tied in knots (on Xhitter and the like) about our "culture" and how the "left is destroying our way of life." No substance needed, each believer fills in the gaps for the authoritarian leader in their own minds.
It's actually really easy to understand: focusing on the meaningless and trivial requires very little thought or effort and results in little to no pushback from (likely male) church authority figures who probably have a vested interest in society's status quo. Focusing on the meaningless and trivial means you can publicly demonstrate how pious and devoted you are to the group without making anyone uncomfortable or being labelled a troublemaker.
