I just got a catalog from a British bookseller in which the photos of larger books include an apple for scale, which is kind of delightful.
@overholt A while back I came across an auction that used a can of Campbells soup for scale, and it was as if the can had wondered around the house, photobombing each item. ( https://www.instagram.com/p/CB2JqW7hNyC/?img_index=1 )

(I mean, sure, anything would do but come ON, a Campbell’s tomorrow [edit: tomato] soup can?!) The more lots I look at, the more it feels like the whole site is just the can’s travelogue as it pokes around people’s houses, posing with favorite items now and then. Sometimes it lies on the floor to rest and stare at the ceiling. Sometimes just as the picture’s being taken, it’s distracted by something behind the bushes. Sometimes it sneaks into someone else’s picture."
