Musk blatantly turns his deadbird site into a right-wing cesspool, and loudly endorses Trump. (Journalists still do free work for him, sadly.)

Musk says he's spending $45 million per month until the election to support Trump. (corrected)

Trump starts saying nice things about electric cars after denouncing them.

Tesla earnings and shares tumble, reducing Musk's paper wealth by non-trivial amount.

Musk reneges on donations to Trump.

@dangillmor crypto market crash
@PetterOfCats @dangillmor he did that last time when china banned bitcoin and gave him a free factory. They 100% got him to crash bitcoin after he said Tesla would take it. China was about to press Tesla about fires in cars and then it all went away.

@dangillmor Bill Gates calls the bluff, raises the ante, pledges 100M/mo to Harris.
@dangillmor It's not at all clear he's reneging, though he probably likes that he managed to get headlines saying that. He said he was never giving $45m/mo to Trump (no one thought he was, since he couldn't give that much to the campaign). But then he explains he's giving to a super PAC that supports Trump, and he doesn't say how much he's giving.
@kcivey Yes, I've corrected the money flow part. Thanks.
@dangillmor I still don't think he's reneging. He didn't say he'd changed anything. He just wanted to distance himself from the personality cult.
@kcivey @dangillmor Which is funny considering that Musk is the embodiment of personality cult.
@dangillmor Oh, he also saddled Trump with a crappy shillbilly VP that adds no strength to the ticket, and who is apparently historically unpopular in the immediate aftermath of the party convention.
