My partner is going for a #mamogramscreening tomorrow and the fear is building. Her last two experiences have been horrific and painful. #nhs #women It occurred to me that if the only way to screen for #testicularcancer was for men’s nuts to be crushed in a vice while an x-ray was taken: 1/ the death rate for that type of cancer would skyrocket and 2/ millions would be channeled into research to find another method of screening, which would be found within a year…
@auldsimon Good point. Women are mostly ignored in when it comes to pain. You're told it doesn't hurt even if it does or you're expected to be okay with pain. Mammograms & cervical smear tests can lead to days of pain. Smears may cause urgency (needing to go pee frequently) for the next week & even bleeding. Everyone is different but there's enough of this to deter women from being screened. Add to this history of sexual abuse & it is all a total nightmare.
@auldsimon
Having had prostate biopsies I'm not sure about that. Some procedures are bloody painful but worth it if they detect cancer at an early stage. Of course newer, less painful/invasive methods would be welcome for both sexes.
