I finally retired my 7-year-old iMac and have started using my 4-year-old M1 MacBook Pro as my primary machine.

I have a nice display, so I wanted to use the MacBook in clamshell, but it completely ruins the WiFi reception.

Any solutions? Do I just have to keep the MBP open?

@mattstauffer That's wild, I've never come across that before. Out of interest, have you tested it with other displays to see if it still happens?
(Two reasons for asking: I always use clamshell mode both at home and at work, and I own/run an IT company that does a lot of Mac repairs, so very curious…).

@steve huh! I’ve googled and found a lot of others with the same issue so don’t think it’s isolated to me. But now curious. Do you do clamshell flat or vertical in a dock?

And yah, has happened with two different displays.

@mattstauffer That's really curious. We've got a lot of clients where we're recommend this solution - clamshell and USB-C large screen - not had any reports at all of issues. I use it flat on my desk at home and vertical in a stand at the office. How odd!
@steve whoa. i tested. 10-20Mbps down if it's flat, 60-70Mbps down if it's vertical. HUGE difference, reproducible over and over. Thank you for asking!
@mattstauffer Ah, awesome - a kinda workaround for now at least. I'm going to do some testing - I'm sure we've got at least one M1 Pro kicking about in the workshop…
