The man looked crestfallen and also mildly affronted. I wasn t sure what he expected me to say. He turned to leave and I took it upon myself to pursue the matter. 'Why do you ask?'
'Well, you looked like you were on your own.'
I was confused. 'Sorry, did you ask me if I liked vaginas?'
'No' he looked even more affronted, because Americans can be quite formal at times. 'I said, "Would you like to Join Us?"'
