I keep seeing surprised posts along the lines of "Huh, I went to [insert event, conference, club, on an airplane, the Sphere] and got COVID!" Meanwhile CNN is running headlines saying "COVID-19's Back." Friends, it never, ever went away and I'm still masking in indoor spaces for your protection as well as my own.

I'm still masking in indoor spaces for your protection as well as my own.

Thank you for that! Same here. You are a gentleperson and a scholar.

@stevesilberman I was one of maybe 3 people in masks at grocery store today (and 2 were flimsy with gaps)

@PamW

Itโ€™s all I can do to avoid reaching into my purse and giving people wearing floppy masks one of my extra N95s. I mean, theyโ€™re obviously trying to do the right thing, but perhaps they donโ€™t understand how masks work โ€” or are supposed to fit.

I have a friend who is a retired college professor, a scientist, and a health nut.

A year or two ago she caught Covid 19.

She acted shocked and asked in an astonished tone how she could have gotten it. She knew better.

Some Socratic questioning revealed that she ate in a restaurant with friends. Something she already knew was a risk.

"That is enough to do it" I said.

@stevesilberman

Indeed it never went away.

My workspace spans 3 countries and the staff of 2 of those countries have all just gone, or are going, through the Covid merry-go-round AGAIN.
@stevesilberman I still mask indoors and around people outdoors as well. I use the 3M Aura N95 masks exclusively. Big Island Hawaii here and #COVID is NOT over. TY for your posts and for masking. It matters.

Yes! Data point: Oregon COVID levels in wastewater have spiked sharply since the Fourth of July, highest levels in the past 17 months.

Attached: 1 image Oregon's COVID levels detected in wastewater continue to increase for the second week at an alarming rate. This spike began immediately following the Fourth of July holiday, the correlation seems clear. Oregon is now at the highest level in 17 months, having recently been very low for several months. Now is a good time to wear a mask and avoid indoor gatherings. Source: CDC website https://www.cdc.gov/nwss/rv/COVID19-statetrend.html
