I just saw someone characterize running a Mastodon instance as being “no harder than running your own mail server” and I thought “oof, that’s a savage takedown” before grasping that they meant it as a positive.

@Afferand @Meyerweb It's easy if you don't care about corposcum and the destruction they've wrought on the clearnet.

It remains easy on Tor and I2P to host your own email.

The current difficulties with self-hosting email have nothing to do with technical difficulty, they are the result of purposeful social exclusion and collusion by cartel operators.
