Paul Houle@christianselig even in 1999 it was an absolute rule of mine that the auth system needs to keep track of where a user started and send them to where they wanted to go in the end; that obsessive approach to onboarding has disappeared recently...

I created a Facebook account for my VR headset and it is shocking how bad of a feed you get (like they make pig butchering scam come-ons look good) from Facebook if you haven't followed anyone: if I was started a new social site I'd probably spend 30%+ of dev effort into onboarding because you don't usually get a second chance but Facebook just doesn't care anymore.
