Popped into GAK in Brighton to noodle on the synths - went to try out the Korg Minilogue XD, but had a chance to try out a few others too.

The Roland Boutique JD-08 was cute, but too tiny & fiddly for me. Great sounds but I wouldn't be getting anything different enough to warrant spending money on.

I couldn't get my head around programming the Arturia Minifreak.

Really liked the ASM Hydrasynth Explorer, especially the focus it had on the arpeggiator, and lots of options for twiddling. Those controls are solid (as in built to last).

Not going to buy anything yet, but I'm torn between the Minilogue XD and the Hydrasynth.

@ashnoodle minilogue is a really wonderful fairly traditional subtractive synth - i love it.
i don’t have a hydrasynth, but i was really wanting one for a bit - the sheer number of LFOs and possibilities for semi-chaotic interactions between them is enough to make it super interesting to me. seems like you could make some really rich and alive-sounding patches with it
@b Yes, I'd be very happy with getting either of them for those different reasons if I had the money. And they both felt easy to get to grips with.
