Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research hit by Medusa ransomware gang, possible data breach

The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Perth has suffered a ransomware attack by the Medusa gang, which claims to have stolen 4.6 terabytes of internal CCTV footage and is demanding a $500,000 ransom. The gang is also offering to sell the data to other buyers and has set a deadline of July 12, 2024. The Institute has engaged cybersecurity experts, informed the Australian Cyber Security Centre, and is cooperating with law enforcement and privacy regulators as the extent of the breach is investigated.
