Rabbit Whisperers!
My rabbit, an unaltered male Rex, (chillest rabbit ever) will growl at me if I scratch at his towel. Then he presents his head for scritches. I'm assuming he's being grumpy at me for petting his towel than him.

Growling when you touch his things can be defensive/posessiveness. He could also see it as challenging his place in the pecking order.

Presenting himself for grooming/petting is also a classic sign of establishing his place. The dominant bun is the one who gets groomed (more, and first), while the subservient one does the grooming.

Is this new behaviour, or new rabbit? He could get over the growling as he learns to trust you, etc.

@cazabon @Urbanhedgelady Agreed. If you're planning to have him neutered, this behavior will decrease or disappear entirely a couple weeks post op.

Oh thank you! That would explain a lot. Yes, he's a new bun.
