prettybunnysBecause teaching isn’t about having the smart kid demonstrate that they know the answer, it’s about getting the kid who doesn’t understand the question to engage and learn.
i can’t think of a better way to get shy kids to engage and learn than to figuratively put them on a pedestal in front of the whole class and have them demonstrate that they don’t know the answer.
If you see learning as “I always must know all the answers when asked by a teacher” you will never learn.
Plenty of shy kids don’t raise their hand even if they do know or could quickly find the answer with a little engagement.
Yes, it’s uncomfortable for them to pick them anyway but it’s better then just giving them a bad grade.
HyphlosionAnd, if you’re anything like me, it will be very hard to forget the answer now because it is forever attached to this memory.
Not that I condone it. There are better ways to attach memories to things you want to remember, I’m sure.
