I want to use #Linux on my laptop. I really do. #Windows10 support ends next year and I refuse to use #Windows11 for many reasons.

But a fresh install of #PopOS froze when I tried to copy 50GB of music to the SSD from a thumb drive. And now a fresh install of #Mint Cinnamon doesn't even boot after installing the first round of updates. This is extremely frustrating.

Before you tell me Linux has never, ever given you any problems, just please don't. That's not helpful. I've successfully installed and used Linux many times before - one stretch for almost a year as my primary OS. But inevitability stuff like this happens and I get fed up with it.

I guess I just keep trying different distros until one doesn't break when I try to do basic stuff?

@newfangled I empathize with you, I really do. The Linux community can be frustrating sometimes, because it is a very steep learning curve for most, and the barriers to entry for Linux newbies are very real.

My only suggestion is to keep in mind why you want to use Linux in the first place. For me, I truly believe in open source software, removing the mass surveillance from tech as much as possible, and so on. I faced the same struggles as you at first, but they fade with time and experience.
