"A.I. won't replace you, but a shareholder who doesn't care about quality will" is what the slogan *should* say.
@jasongorman this is what I keep trying to tell people... it doesn't matter if *you*, an expert in the type of stuff you make, can tell that the AI is crap at it. The decision makers can't, and wouldn't care anyhow.
@aburka They never have, though.
@aburka @jasongorman
I am reminded of a de-motivational poster from the early 2000s, made by despair dot com. It had a picture of the leaning tower, and it said, "MEDIOCRITY: It's a whole lot cheaper, and most people won't know the difference... until it's too late."
@dmself @aburka @jasongorman
This one I guess? https://despair.com/products/mediocrity
Wish I had this. Or an updated version with the image created by gen AI :D
Mediocrity

@jasongorman How far can we lower the quality of our product and still get people to buy it? Henry Ford already understood this basic tenet of capitalism. AI is just another step in this direction.
@renewiersma It helps if they have very little choice. Which is why these people also tend to favour monopolies, lobbying and corruption.
@jasongorman @renewiersma It helps that you can’t sustain the first without the other two
@jasongorman that is totally unfair! it could also be an executive who doesn't care about quality
@jasongorman My favourite version was: "AI isn't good enough to do your job. But AI salespeople are good enough to convince your boss that it can."
