Ryzen 7 Mini-PC makes a power-efficient VM host

The ASRock DeskMini X600 barebone uses less than 10W of power but supports latest-generation AMD CPUs like the Ryzen 7 8700G!

Ryzen 7 Mini-PC makes a power-efficient VM host

When I saw the first reviews of the ASRock DeskMini X600 barebone, I was immediately interested in building a home-lab hypervisor (VM host) with it. Apparently, the DeskMini X600 uses less than 10W of power but supports latest-generation AMD CPUs like the Ryzen 7 8700G!

@zekjur it seems they planned ECC Support for the 8000s APU series, but removed the info later on

AMD confirms Ryzen 8000G APUs don't support ECC RAM, despite initial claims

Maybe wait for Ryzen 8000G Pro versions.

@the_grue not exactly your use case but still interesting.
Maybe search for other boards with the same chipset as it can be low power, apparently.
@zekjur how did you measure the Wats from that PC and display on grafana?
@bteixeira Using a https://mystrom.ch/wifi-switch/, which has a REST API for fetching measurement values
WiFi Switch (Works with Apple HomeKit) | Smart Home | myStrom

The versatile WiFi socket. Control devices remotely. Measure and save electricity. Track mini PV power production. Temperature sensor. Burglary protection.

@zekjur Besten Dank für den Tipp. Mal direkt nachgekauft, bin gespannt!
@zekjur Wirklich super! Ersetzt zahlreiche Einzellösungen mit Raspberry usw. - schön leise. Der Blogpost war der Anschub, um das Proxmox Projekt anzugehen. Danke! Kaffee wird zeitnah geklickt. 😉

@zekjur Some people online seem to complain about the power supply fan noise, can you say something about that?

Edit: Sorry, that was about the Desk*Meet*.

@leah Uh, the power supply doesn’t have a fan? :)

I haven’t noticed the power supply making any noise

@zekjur Yes, I confused the reviews. The bigger DeskMeet has a power supply, and the fan isn't so silent apparently. The DeskMini just has a brick I guess.
