A bit late for #pride24 but did you know that we have extensive footage of the first Pride protest march?

Its called Gay and Proud, a documentary by Lilli Vincenz. Filmed in New York in 1970 to commemorate the anniversary of Stonewall.

I find this film a fascinating time capsule, you have an early acknowledgement of bisexuality and an argument about appropriate behaviour at Pride, alongsidr some dated terminology and ideas e.g. Homophiles and Gay as a phase questions.

Of course this was not the first public Gay rights protest. Before Stonewall there was the Compton Cafeteria riot in San Francisco 1966, and the Mattachine society organised more moderate "Reminder Day pickets" in Philadelphia.
One of the last of these pickets was also filmed by Lilli Vincenz on the 4th of July 1968. "The Second Largest Minority"
