After 3.5 years on the current instance, I think I'm ready to move on. I've lost too many good contacts due to instance blocking.

Any recommendations where to go? I mostly post in English, but occasionally in Czech. I appreciate if the instance blocks spam and clearly abusive instances, but otherwise I'd like to rely on my judgment who to block.

@sesivany Is running your own instance an option? 

There is much more control and you may, of course, use a service like @mastohost if  is a preference.

@gytisrepecka @mastohost it's an option I've been considering, but now I still prefer being part of a community. But I don't rule it out for the future.

@gytisrepecka @sesivany I have my own instance and I would not do that again. Federation and local timeline is almost equal to my personal timeline. And lots of discovery tools (e.g. top X mastodon accounts you should follow) miss me. I would not set up my own instance again, but it is not big PITA for me considering migrating somewhere else.

@mirek @gytisrepecka one of the options I'm considering is an instance with 12 users. I'm afraid it'd be essentially the same.

@mirek @sesivany User and content discovery is always a challenge on federated systems. However, now that I follow a whole bunch of people, timeline is rather rich and I keep discovering many new interesting folk from reshares. Can't say I'm missing being on some big instance, really
