Hello to Infosec Exchange. This is my new 'professional' account... so I guess I'll start with a question or two.

Who is good to follow here? Do you do follow friday?

Linux desktop users, are there any good native clients or do you keep it simple and use web browsers?

And finally, are there any unwritten rules here that I should be aware of before I get too comfortable? 😀

Welcome!

Definitely follow @FediTips to get the hang of some features.

Community-wise, make a post with the hashtag "introduction" and pin it to your profile. Include your interests (hashtags help!) and a little about yourself.

Including alt-text for your images increases the chance to get boosted (and also is more inclusive for the community). Content-warnings are encouraged, too.

Following hashtags is a great way to meet people with similar interests. :)

@JillsJoy An introduction post is a fun idea - I need to write a bio anyway. Thanks Jill!

@antonyh
You're welcome.
The way the fediverse works is that, when clicking on a new person's profile, servers that are not that new person's server will only know to fetch initial info about that account, which can include pinned posts.

An account might otherwise look like it has ZERO posts or activities if the querying server has not interacted with the account before.

So having at least one pinned post - preferably an intro to who you are - helps you look like a human to new followers. 🙂
